Salzburg
Probably the best way to get to know Salzburg is to take an organised tour. There are Coaches, Hop On Hop Off Buses, Boat Trips, Biking and Walking tours, The Sound of Music tours, Old Town tours, Salt Mine tours, tours of Mozart’s Birth House. There’s are Museums, Art Galleries, Salzburg Castle and Hellbrun Palace all of which you can just wander through alone or with a guide. There are also plenty of Bike and E-bike hire points if you want to get around at your own pace.
Surrounded by Mountains and Lakes, and with Rivers, The Old Town and Mirabel Gardens in the middle, Salzburg are always beautiful, whether your holiday is in Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter.
During the course of a year Salzburg has its famous Christmas Markets and Oktoberfest celebration, as well as Fun Fairs for the whole family
For those not so sunny days, as well as the Salt Mine, Castle and Palace etc there is also plenty other indoor activities including Swimming Pools, 10 Pin Bowling, Mini Golf, Go Kart Racing, The Science Museum, Red Bull's Hanger 7, and Cinema and Theatre in English.
Just over the German Border in Obersalzburg is The Eagles Nest, or The Kelsteinhaus. It was Hitler's private mountain retreat, and one of the final parts of Nazi Germany to be captured at the end of World War 2. You can take a tour of the private quarters, wander around the mountain top paths, or spend hours exploring in the Documentation Centre and Tunnels.
